The home is well established private nursing home and has been owned by Dr S Appiah for many years. Dr Appiah is a retired GP and Surgeon and lives in the Birmingham area but makes regular visits to the home offering advice and support.
The home manager is Mrs Carol Lightwood who is a registered nurse and has worked for many years in the field of caring for the older adult. Carol has worked at Yew Tree since 2007 and was appointed manager in 2010.
Vicky Mills is the Business Manager and has been in post since 2010. Vicky and Carol work closely together in the running of the day to day business of the home. Vicky attending to the administration and Carol as the matron. Carol and Vicky with the assistance of the staff team as a whole aim to provide a person centred approach in caring for each resident. Meaningful and purposeful engagement is of great importance when considering quality of life. Carol and Vicky undertake the organisation of the social events and daily activities program where the resident is supported by a named staff member. Carol and Vicky put great emphasis on the meal time experience and create menus tailored to the residents choices and is prepared here at Yew Trees in our five star rated kitchen.
Carol is supported by a team of registered nurses who are responsible for the day to day resident care over a twenty four hour period. All of our trained staff have considerable experience and offer specialist roles in areas such as Wound Care, Dementia Care, Palliative and End of Life Care. We are currently working towards the accreditation for the Gold Standards Framework which is part of the government strategy to improve the standards of end of life care across the country.
Our team of health care assistants are friendly, caring and enjoy working at Yew Tree and most of them have been at the home for many years. They help to create the homely atmosphere whilst ensuring that all residents receive the appropriate care. All staff undergoes training as part of their employment on an ongoing basis to ensure that they continue to provide the level of service. The majority of staff has NVQ two as minimum and many have achieved a level three qualification. The health care assistants are supported by Care Co-ordinators who work closely with the Registered Nurse to ensure the care is managed appropriately throughout the day.
The catering team produce an excellent variety of home cooked food with the menu changing in accordance with the season. Each day the residents are offered a choice from the menu. Specialist dietary requirements are readily catered for. Light choices are available at any time of day or night. Room service is available as required by the resident.
The ancillary staff at Yew Tree includes the housekeeping team, the laundry assistants, maintenance, health and safety officer and gardener who all work hard to ensure there is a clean, safe and tidy environment throughout the home.
